Press Release: Tony Hawk’s Nonprofit Awards $15,000 Grant to Rebuild Silverado Skatepark

The Grunion: Memorial skateboard event in Long Beach hits 10 years

When 21-year-old Lakewood resident Jeffrey Dempsey, Jr. died after a skateboard accident on a Long Beach street in 2011, his mom, Anitra Dempsey, went to Mike Donelon, founder of Action Sports Kids, to help promote safe skateboarding. The result was the Jeffrey Dempsey Jr. Memorial AM/JAM competition. The event will return Saturday, Aug. 7, for the 10th annual edition.
